Advocacy Group

Boys from Prep 4 who demonstrate the Eight Essentials of Edmund Rice are chosen to part take in the Edmund Rice Advocacy group. The group supports the current campaigns co-ordinated by ‘Edmund Rice International’ an NGO within the United Nations in Geneva that lobbies governments and international agencies on issues of justice and human rights. Boys attend meetings during lunch time with Miss Waters, in these meetings their focus is to develop charity projects. They look at ways they can help others in their local community and internationally. Tom Murray, (Youth Development Officer from Edmund Rice Office), is also present at many of these meetings and he supports the school to connect with other Edmund Rice Schools. The school often links with the Advocacy group in the College and they fundraise together.

Some of the projects the Advocacy have completed include:

  • Raising awareness for food poverty by “Baking on a Budget”
  • Helping the homeless people of Manchester at Christmas by collecting Christmas Shoeboxes
  • Donating clothes and blankets to the Refugee Centre in Salford
  • Donating used school shoes to Africa with Clarks Souls for Souls
  • Raising money for our Twin Schools Pacakelli and Insakka in Zambia
  • Donating our old school books to children in Manchester who are less fortunate
  • Linking with the College to organise a car wash
  • Organising assembly for guest speakers to communicate local projects
